HYPERTEXTURES

Hypertextures :: Generative Animations

SCI-Arc Seminar :: Fall 2015

Instructor :: Ivan Bernal

This study playfully explores the collision between moving geometry and animate color, texture, light, and material on three "hypertexture creatures." Where contemporary digital design has long used animation software as a generative form-finding tool, these techniques have always prefaced control over form over representation of texture and materiality. The "hypertexture creatures" attempt to undermine this relationship, allowing textures to animate across the figure and take on their own character. Textures come in and out of alignment with the creature's geometry, running the spectrum between total alignment with the creature's posture and completely independent characteristics.
